Celebrity Sleepovers with Mark Malkoff!

Mark Malkoff figured out fast that Los Angeles gets expensive for a guy living out of a suitcase. So he decided simply to ask celebrities if he could sleep at their homes. He just ASKED them! And they said YES!

He slept with Camryn Manheim's Emmy. He met Mary Lynn Rajskub and her son. He stayed in Justine Bateman's treehouse. He practiced napping with Kristen Schaal. He slept in the same bed with Kate Walsh...only after Kate called Mark's wife and assured her that it was perfectly fine since she wasn't attracted to him at all!

Ed Begley, Jr., Dave Coulier, "Bridesmaids" director Paul Feig, "Everybody Loves Raymond" creator Phil Rosenthal, legends Buck Henry and Dick Cavett...Mark convinced them all to open their doors and let him spend the night.

Well... almost all of them (Lookin' at you, Rob Corddry. Lookin' at YOU.).

Watch what happened at Dave Coulier's house now!

Last Minute Halloween Costume: "Gigi"

So it's the week before Halloween and you can't go as a ghost again because your mom is pissed you keep cutting holes in her sheets. What to do? We're here to help. All this week we're going to tell you how to dress up like your favorite My Damn Channel stars.

First up, How To Dress Like Gigi:

What you need:

  • hat
  • button-down shirt
  • striped tie
  • cargo shorts
  • glasses
  • old-timey suitcase

Most of these items are probably lying around your parents' house somewhere or can be purchased pretty inexpensively at any second-hand store.

Once you get the look down, get the character down by walking around all day saying "shakey peachy" and pretending not to understand English. We predict this will go over particularly well with your girlfriend who already complains that you don't understand her.

If you do it correctly, you should resemble our friend Smokybanjo here, whose head has been poorly 'shopped onto Gigi for no reason other than we watched an old episode of YSAP and learned about the path tool. Happy Halloween!

Steve Jobs, 1955-2011

And that's really what it is, isn't it?

We're all sitting here, staring at our iPhones in disbelief. Finding comfort in one of the tens of thousands of songs on our iPod. Searching the internet to share in the mourning en masse on our MacBooks.

After we're done here, we'll edit some videos using Final Cut Pro. While we listen to a playlist we made on iTunes. When we get hungry later, we'll use an app on our iPhone to figure out a good place nearby to eat. When we get home, we'll iChat with our parents across the country and tell them what we've been up to. Hell, even one of our most popular videos took place in an Apple Store.

For so many of us who never even met the man, we can't imagine what our lives would have been like without him.

The real brilliance of Steve Jobs's vision is that he believed we all deserved to live the lives of our dreams, and he gave us as many tangible tools as possible to try and do just that. How many of us began vlogging because we were experimenting with our iSights? How many of us became interested in telling stories because of iMovie? How many of us now see the world refracted through Steve Jobs's lens?

We're not the first to post this video, but its message bears repeating, even on days when it isn't almost painfully poignant:

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

Thanks for believing in all of us, Steve. You have to have known that you made a difference.

We Like The Sklar Brothers

(The Sklar Brothers at My Damn Channel HQ!)

We like The Sklar Brothers.

They're funny. Their podcast is reliably funny. They did a web series with us called Back On Topps, which got us as close to Yankees GM Brian Cashman as we're probably ever going to get:

And this week they put out a new album, "Hendersons & Daughters."

In fact, it's already Number One on the iTunes Comedy chart:

(You guys knocked Daniel Tosh out of the top spot! Thank goodness.)

So check it out. Buy the album. Tell them we said "Thanks for being so nice that one time you came by the office." And always make sure that you shout out loud whenever and wherever you possibly can, "HENDERSON!!!"

Harry Shearer's "The Big Uneasy" is on iTunes!

Posted in Harry Shearer, Maria with tags Harry Shearer, The Big Uneasy, Justin Bieber, iTunes on 8/23/2011 12:20:50 PM by Maria

Harry Shearer's documentary about New Orleans and the Hurricane Katrina disaster, The Big Uneasy, is now on iTunes!

In fact, Harry knocked Justin Bieber from atop the iTunes Documentary charts:

Congrats, Harry, on beating the Biebs!

And if you're not ready to commit to downloading the entire movie yet, you can always watch the trailer and excerpts right here.

More Apple Store Craziness

According to the LA Times, this man has already started camping out in front of a London Apple Store to ensure he is first in line whenever the new iPhone comes out.

Let us take a moment to note that as of this writing, Apple has NOT EVEN ANNOUNCED THAT THERE IS A NEW IPHONE RELEASE, let alone a prospective release date.

And, whatever. We bet this guy doesn't even have a goat.

Mark Malkoff: Apple Store Challenge

Mark Malkoff's done it again.

The Apple Store.  We've all been there.  We have iPhones and iPads and iPods and MacBooks and MacBook Airs and MacBook Pros that need purchasing and servicing and updating and repair.  We need software and Genius Bars and One to One help and Workshops about Final Cut Pro.  And sometimes-- let's face it-- we just need to hang out in an air conditioned place with free internet access during a heatwave.

And those Apple Store employees, bless their hearts, never ever reprimand you for hogging that 17-inch MacBook Pro display even though everyone can see that you're just playing Words With Friends.

But what if Darth Vader needed help with his iPhone?  Would an Apple Employee just go about business as usual and ask him for his email?

Well, okay. Fine.  Sure.  Of course Darth Vader has email.  But what if Mark Malkoff ordered a pizza?  Or brought his wife in for a romantic dinner date?  Or what if he brought a GOAT into the store?  What then?

We'll let you watch the video for yourself to see what happens.  But the next time you find yourself killing time in an Apple Store pretending to check your email for 30 minutes but really just playing Angry Birds, maybe tell one of those Apple Store employees, "Thanks for being so cool, man.  May the force be with you."  And he might think you're weird, but he's probably still just gonna let you do your thing.

Mark Malkoff Teases His New Video

Such a tease, Mark Malkoff. We hope whatever happened with the goat is legal in places other than Florida.

Slacktory.com

Today is a new day in the world of My Damn Channel because we officially launch the My Damn Channel Blog Network with Slacktory (http://slacktory.com).

Slacktory is helmed by one of our favorite internet users, Nick Douglas, former editor of Valleywag and Urlesque, where he helped us navigate the vast internet with humor and wit.  We were so impressed by him, naturally we stalked followed Nick on Twitter and Tumblr and when he mentioned briefly that he was looking for a new challenge, we pounced.  Social Media: it works!

(Nick!)

Now Nick and his merry band of writers are all part of the Damn Family.  We always wanted more brothers and sisters, but Mom said "over her dead body," so this is, like, the best kind of compromise.  We get some new playmates and Mom's still alive.

Make sure you visit Slacktory.com daily to find out what shenanigans that crazy internet has gotten itself into this time!  Today, we have stories about Jessi Slaughter, a Harry Potter/Book of Mormon parody, a visit to Jack In The Box with Tom Waits and a weekly column from Mark Zuckerberg that Mark Zuckerberg has nothing to do with at all.

But, don't worry! We haven't forgotten our online video roots! Slacktory will curate, remix and mashup videos at MyDamnChannel.com/Slacktory.  Our first Slacktory video has cats, babies and Hitler explaining "Planking," so, you know, there's something for everyone!

Slacktory is just the beginning.  We're coming for you, Internet.  Please continue to do ridiculous things so we always have something to talk about.
